Mum and daughter, Diane and Sammi Atkinson, are often found catching up over their morning coffee or sharing a lunch break together at Aria Court Care Home.
Cook Diana has been with Athena Care Homes since 2017, and last September daughter Sammi joined her at our March home.
Sammi, an activities coordinator, said: “When I first started I didn’t really know many people so it was great having mum there. I usually go in early for my shift so I can have a coffee with her during her morning break, and we try and have lunch together.
“We work the same weekends too, so we can spend time together.”
She continued: “It is great working with mum, she is really supportive of the activities team. If we are baking she will always make sure we have all the ingredients we need.”
Sammi’s great aunt is a resident at the home, and the pair take time out to see her too – proving that family really is at the heart of what we do at Athena.
Paying tribute to her mum ahead of Mother’s Day this Sunday, Sammi said: “My mum is special because of everything she does for me. She has brought me and my brothers up mainly on her own. She has always been a hard worker and she is a wonderful nanny to my children. We all love her so much.”
Sammi said her mum loves live music and is often out listening to bands. “She has a better social life than me.”
Diane added: “I love working with Sammi, it means I get to see her all the time. We have a really close relationship.”
At Athena we pride ourselves on our family values and are privileged to have so many mother’s working within our home. They have a passion for caring for our residents just as they have a passion for caring for their families.
We want to wish all of the mum’s within the Athena family a happy Mother’s Day, those who care, cater and provide activities for our residents; those living with us and those who come to visit.
We will be hosting events in all five homes this weekend to mark this special event.
Happy Mother’s Day.
