We kept up to date with the Women’s World Cup here at Athena Care Homes and we were delighted that the lionesses made it to the final and were so proud of their efforts! Not only do we enjoy watching the sport and keeping up to date, but our team also enjoy getting involved in playing too!
Lisa Vile, our Sales and Hospitality Manager, was in fact a Sunderland
Goalkeeper, for the women’s team that play at Chester-Le-Street. She was a proud stopper in the feminine Black Cats’ side that won promotion to the Premier League. Her father, Peter, is a devoted Tottenham fan, and football talk so often filled the air at their Wisbech home.
From the age of three, little Lisa was kicking a ball. At Ramnoth Primary School,
she proudly became the “gym-slip” last line of defence in the boys’ eleven. Then came her big break. She was invited to join the National Women’s Football Academy at Durham. When this happened, Sunderland came straight in to make Lisa their keeper. Now 44, she hung up her boots and gloves at 25 after several bouts of tendon trouble. Manchester United’s England keeper Mary Earps is an all-time favourite of Lisa’s!
