Goodwins Hall care home in Kings Lynn has triumphed at the Anglia in Bloom 2024 awards, securing the prestigious Gold in the Care Home and Nursing Home category.
This accolade is a testament to the stunning gardens that wrap around the residential home, and are a cherished space for those who work and live there as well as for visitors from the local community.
The Anglia in Bloom judges, including Chris Durham, Chair of Anglia in Bloom, visited Goodwins Hall to present the award. The recognition came in the form of a certificate and a beautiful wooden trophy, honouring the home’s commitment to creating a vibrant and engaging outdoor environment.
Mr Durham noted that the competition in this category was particularly fierce this year, but the judges have long admired the gardens at Goodwins Hall. “The amount of work put in by the team shows,” he said. “It is great to see the way the residents get involved with the gardens too.”
Home Manager Flavia Hansell expressed her pride in the achievement, highlighting the dedication and hard work that have gone into maintaining and enhancing the garden.
“The Gold Award shows well-deserved recognition for the work which has gone into the gardens over the years,” she said. “Last year, the home won the Silver award, and now we’ve reached the top. The challenge now is to maintain the gold standard—but it is a challenge we are all up for.”
The gardens at Goodwins Hall are more than just a visual delight; they serve as a hub of activity and enjoyment for the residents and visitors alike throughout the seasons. Recently, the gardens were the setting for an enchanting opera evening, and they regularly host community events, including fun days, BBQs, and family gatherings.
The diverse features of the gardens include a sensory garden, fruit and vegetable plots which yield regular winners for the local horticultural show, a memorial garden, a fish pond, and plenty of spaces for residents to relax, chat with friends, or find a quiet spot to read a book.
The Gold award at Anglia in Bloom is a fitting recognition of the outstanding efforts by the Goodwins Hall team, whose passion for gardening and commitment to their residents have blossomed into something spectacular.
As the home looks ahead, the challenge will be to maintain this gold standard, but with the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone involved, there is no doubt that Goodwins Hall will continue to flourish.
Goodwins Hall were also winners in four categories at Athena Care Homes own In Bloom awards which were presented earlier this month. The team won
