Cambridge community invited to help make a resident's centenary celebration unforgettable
The team at Langdon House Care Home in Chesterton, Cambridge, is inviting the local community to help create a truly memorable celebration by sending 100 birthday cards to resident Lily Wilkin, who celebrates her 100th birthday on 14 September.
Reaching a century is an incredible milestone, and everyone at Langdon House, part of Athena Care Homes, wants to ensure Lily’s special day is filled with love, kindness and community spirit.
A remarkable lady with a passion for helping others
Lily is a much-loved resident whose warmth and generosity shine through every day. She is always eager to take part in activities around the home and enjoys supporting fellow residents whenever she can. During the home’s regular bingo sessions, Lily often sits alongside another resident so she can help them join in the fun.
More recently, Lily has discovered an exciting new passion through Langdon House’s art programme. After attending weekly art classes, she revealed an incredible talent for painting, with several of her beautiful pieces being sold during the home’s recent resident art exhibition.
Her enthusiasm, creativity and caring nature have made her a treasured member of the Langdon House family.
A birthday made even more special
Adding to the excitement, Lily’s 100th birthday is expected to coincide with another wonderful family milestone, as her new great-great-granddaughter is due to arrive on 14 September, making the day one the Wilkin family will never forget.
The Langdon House team hopes to make the occasion even more memorable by collecting 100 birthday cards from people across Cambridge and beyond.
Bringing the community together
Home Manager Andreea Militaru said:
“Celebrating 100 years is an incredible milestone, and we would love the community to come together to make Lily’s birthday one she’ll always remember. Every card will mean so much and show just how valued and celebrated she is.”
Neil Douglas, Lifestyles Lead at Langdon House, added:
“Our goal is to make this whole occasion as special as possible for Lily. Receiving 100 birthday cards would be a wonderful surprise and create lasting memories, not only for her but for everyone sharing in her celebrations.”
