The Government has updated guidance on the use of face masks in care settings. Here is everything you need to know.
From Friday, 23rd December we will be moving to a risk-based approach to face mask wearing within our homes.
This means our staff will no longer be required to wear a mask unless there is a Covid risk.
Masks will continue to be worn by staff when:
- A person receiving care is suspected or confirmed as having Covid-19
- A staff member has been an overnight or household
contact of someone with Covid-19 - There is an outbreak of Covid-19 in the setting
Masks may also be worn if the person being cared for is particularly vulnerable to
severe outcomes from Covid-19 or where a resident feels more comfortable with
carers wearing masks.
Some of our staff will still choose to continue wearing a mask, and we fully support that decision.
Central Government have amended the guidance after recognising that the use of face masks can cause difficulties for people receiving care, and staff looking after them.
Athena Care Homes will be asking residents and their families what their preferences are ahead of the changes.
