Behind every exceptional care home is a team of dedicated, compassionate people who bring warmth, professionalism, and genuine human connection to their work each day. At Athena Care Homes, our staff are at the heart of everything we do, creating supportive environments not just for our residents, but for one another as well.
Through their own words, our team members share their experiences of working here, from the friendships they’ve built and the pride they take in their roles, to the meaningful moments that make every day rewarding. These testimonials offer an honest glimpse into the culture, values, and sense of purpose that define life at Athena Care Homes.
What makes Athena special is the support and opportunities provided by management. I have been encouraged to take part in Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions, which has helped me develop new skills and better understand how to support residents living with dementia. Being able to apply these techniques in real situations has made a meaningful difference in the care I provide.
The culture here is built on teamwork, respect, and genuine care. You feel supported, valued, and motivated to grow. Athena is a place where you’re not just doing a job, you’re making a difference every single day, and I am proud to be part of that.
What stands out most to me about Athena is its commitment to its values. These are not just words but are clearly reflected in daily practice, ensuring that both residents and staff are cared for and respected. There are many examples that come to mind which highlight this, and overall, my experience with Athena has been outstanding.
The culture at Athena is one of mutual care and teamwork. We look out for one another, which creates a warm and supportive working environment. I have also noticed how well-organised the company is, which greatly benefits both residents and staff by ensuring smooth and efficient care delivery.
Staffing is another area where Athena excels. It is rare to experience staff shortages, and shifts are consistently well covered. In Goodwins Hall, in particular, there is a very good nurse-to-resident and carer-to-resident ratio, which is not commonly found elsewhere. This allows us to provide holistic, high quality care and ensures that residents receive the attention and dignity they deserve.
It’s the little moments that make this job so special- sharing a laugh, listening to a story, or simply being there for someone. Seeing their smiles and engagement reminds me every day why this role is so important.
Knowing I’ve helped someone feel safe, comfortable, or happy at the end of the day is incredibly rewarding and makes even the more challenging days worth it.
The experience I have received from those at Head Office, my line manager, Regional Team, the senior leadership team and at home level has been truly humbling, I feel a real sense of joy and excitement to come to work.
I would recommend Athena to any of my friends or past work mates, in fact I already have. For the first time in a long time I am working within a company that values me and that in itself is worth everything.
One of the things I value most about working here is the company’s genuine commitment to recognising and celebrating the individuality of everyone who is part of the organisation. It creates an environment where people feel respected, included, and supported, which in turn makes a real difference in the way we work together each day.
I take pride in being part of a team that not only focuses on delivering high-quality care and support but also encourages diversity, understanding, and a strong sense of community. This positive and inclusive culture has made my time at Langdon House both rewarding and fulfilling, and it continues to motivate me to contribute my best in my role.
I find great fulfilment in supporting residents living with dementia. Being able to make a positive difference in their daily lives, whether through providing comfort, companionship, or simply sharing a moment of understanding, is something I truly value. It’s a role that requires patience, empathy, and dedication, and I take pride in offering care that respects each individual’s dignity and personal story.
Working at Langdon House has allowed me to be part of a compassionate and supportive team that is committed to delivering high-quality care. The sense of community here, along with the opportunity to continuously learn and grow, has made my 20 years with the company both meaningful and fulfilling.
Working closely around the residents gives me a real sense of purpose, as I know that even the small things I do each day can make a meaningful difference to their comfort and wellbeing. It’s rewarding to be part of their daily lives and to contribute to an atmosphere where they feel at home.
I genuinely enjoy my job and being part of such a supportive team. The positive environment at Langdon House, along with the opportunity to make a difference, makes my role both fulfilling and worthwhile.
What I enjoy most about working here is how rewarding and meaningful the role is. I quickly fell in love with caring, and every day brings a real sense of purpose. I’ve also been given incredible opportunities to grow, from starting as a carer, to becoming a Team Leader within five months, and now working as a Community Lead. Being trusted and supported to progress so early in my career has been both motivating and life-changing.
What makes the culture at Goodwins Hall so special is the genuine sense of community. It truly feels like a home-from-home, where everyone supports one another and no one is left out. We work as one team, especially during challenging times, always coming together to deliver the best possible care for our residents. Now, as I continue working towards my Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care Management, I feel secure in my future and proud of how far I’ve come. As a young mum who once felt uncertain about what lay ahead, I now have stability, confidence, and opportunities I never imagined.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Goodwins Hall to anyone looking to start their career in care, it’s a place where you are supported, valued, and truly given the chance to grow.
