Ruth Garnham

Ruth is part of the furniture here at Avocet Court. Having started with us in April 1994, Ruth was originally interviewed for a role as a bank housekeeper.

Ruth absolutely adores her role, as no two days are ever the same, and she truly enjoys spending time with residents, as well as their families and friends when they visit the home. Activities at our residential and dementia care home, Suffolk

Making every moment matter is as important to us as the standard of care we deliver. Here at Avocet Court, we focus on ensuring that our residents’ needs are at the heart of everything we do. When a new resident joins us, we take some time to understand their life stories, and hobbies and learn about the important people in their lives. This helps us to support our residents in living life the way they choose, and always with laughter and love.

Our residents are encouraged to bring their personal belongings, including furniture, from home. Our maintenance team is on hand to help, by hanging pictures and photographs to create a ‘home from home’.

Regular feedback forums enable residents and their loved ones to suggest experiences, outings or events, to ensure that our activities programme is varied, enjoyable, and reflects the choices and interests of our residents.

Avocet Court is one of the top residential, respite, rehab, nursing, palliative, and dementia care homes, Suffolk. It is very important that our activities programmes are accessible and promote inclusivity. We continuously adapt and review programmes for the changing needs of our residents. You can view an example activity calendar here.

We are constantly striving for new and creative ways to meet the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual needs of our residents – some of them even star in our brochure! Our clubs and activities include gardening, exercise classes, quizzes, and church services. We nurture links with local schools and nurseries, churches, and businesses to enhance our resident experience. We also know how to throw a good party – residents and team members can often be found dancing and singing along to live entertainment!

Nutrition at our residential and dementia care home, Suffolk

As one of the leading nursing homes in Ipswich, our freshly home cooked meals play a central role in the resident experience. Here at Avocet Court, seasonal menus are designed with the help of our residents at regular food forums.

Menus can be easily adapted to ensure we cater for all dietary needs. If the residents fancy something a little different, we’re pleased to be able to further enhance our menus by offering light bites and alternative choices.

We work closely with local suppliers to make sure we have the very best quality produce to offer, and our creative kitchen team enjoy using food to offer new experiences and world cuisines to the residents.
