Alex Wood House in Cambridge quickly became home for Minna Finch-Knightley, who over the past year has grown to love the pace of life and the warmth of community.
Her journey to Alex Wood House began with a stumble, quite literally. After a fall left Minna with a badly broken hip, she found herself in need of respite and recuperation. Little did she know that Alex Wood House would soon become her home away from home, a place where she would not only be able to heal physically but thrive emotionally and spiritually.
With a background that spans from working for John Major, the Huntingdon MP who became Prime Minister, to a career in the fashion industry, Minna has always had a passion for keeping busy and a love for the arts.
Minna, who still has her home in Huntingdon, said, “I like to keep busy and could never sit still for long. In my own house I always had a decorating project on the go.
“From the moment I arrived, I immersed myself in the myriad activities and opportunities offered here. Whether it’s getting my hands dirty in the garden, crafting some jewellery, or delving into the world of pottery, there’s never a dull moment. And let’s not forget about the library—a treasure trove of paperbacks I’ve been working my way through or being taken out to the local charity shops in my chair where you can always find a good read or two.”
But beyond the activities, it’s the atmosphere of warmth and care that truly sets Alex Wood House apart. The team here are like family, always going above and beyond to ensure Minna’s comfort and well-being. Her room is a cozy retreat, adorned with a few pieces of her own furniture that make it feel like home.
“I have settled in really well and am very well taken care of,” she said, “My room is lovely, the place is kept spotless and the team really are second to none.”
And then there’s the food, Minna has enjoyed putting on a little weight during her stay. Reflecting on her time here, Minna says she cannot help but feel grateful for the sense of belonging and purpose she has found at Alex Wood House. It’s a place where every day brings new opportunities for growth and connection—a place I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone in search of care in Cambridge.
“Everything I could want is here, and if it wasn’t then I would just have to ask. I would definitely not hesitate to recommend Alex Wood House to anyone looking for care in Cambridge, “she said.
Minna says she has not only rediscovered her love for life at Alex Wood House but also found a community that feels like home.
