There was a buzz of excitement in the air at Goodwins Hall Care Home last week as they hosted an amazing Masquerade Ball.
In a first for our King’s Lynn care home, which specialises in residential and nursing care, the residents and their loved ones were invited to don their glad rags and party into the evening.
From early afternoon residents started getting into the party spirit, with carers helping the women do their hair and make-up and straightening ties for the men.
Newly-formed trio, Soul Sisters, performed a mix of feel-good party vibes and power ballads and residents danced throughout.
Klaudia Starachowska, one of the unit managers at Goodwins Hall, said: “The residents are still talking about the party because it was so unique.
“One resident said he felt like his old self again, it was like when he was younger and would go out to parties. They all took great pride in getting ready and they felt beautiful in their outfits.
“On the night I looked around and could see people mesmerised by the singers, enjoying their drinks and having a great time.”
The kitchen team provided a buffet-style meal for party goers and there was a fantastic selection of regional wine and beer to enjoy.
The home sold tickets to friends and family guests, and held a raffle with all proceeds going to the Dementia Care Appeal at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
The appeal is seeking to raise money for resources that will help patients living with dementia during their hospital stays with communication support and activities that offer stimulation and distraction which can reduce the isolation they feel.
Kerri Rasberry, Customer Relationship Manager for Goodwins Hall, said: “It was wonderful seeing the residents fully immersed in the party atmosphere, we got a taste of what they were like in their younger days.
“We also managed to raise over £500 for the Dementia Care Appeal, something we at Athena Care Homes are passionate about as we understand how that change in routine can be difficult for someone living with dementia.
“We are grateful to everyone who supported us – the businesses which donated prizes, the team here at Goodwins who made the night exceptional and all those loved ones who brought tickets.
“The night was an overwhelming success and we are excited to start planning our next event.”
