A new drop-in Dementia Café has been launched at Amberley Hall Care Home in Kings Lynn to provide support and stimulation for those living with dementia and their dedicated caregivers.
The launch was attended by Kings Lynn Mayor Cllr Margaret Wilkinson with her daughter Louise, who is one of the Mayor’s consorts, representatives from the Alzheimer’s Society as well as members of the community and Amberley Hall residents and families.
Cllr Wilkinson, whose husband was a resident at Amberley Hall, said, “This is amazing, a wonderful, supportive initiative which will benefit the Kings Lynn community.
“Lots of people living with dementia, or caring for loved ones with the condition, can feel lonely and at a loss for places to go, this is an excellent place.”
Athena Care Homes Learning and Development Manager Tamara Duro gave an entertaining speech about dementia, there were activities including the popular, interactive, sensory Omi-table and a Singing for the Brain session showing the power of music. The kitchen team had prepared tasty cakes which were enjoyed by all along with a cup of tea or coffee.
Amberley Hall’s new manager Jo Monaghan said, “We were delighted to see so many people attend our launch and hope that people will now have Friday morning in their diaries to come along to Amberley Hall. Special thanks to the Mayor for joining us and spending time talking to our guests and residents.”
Following the launch the Dementia Café will continue to provide support and companionship with another session taking place on Friday 12th April from 10am until midday and then every fortnight following. A series of informative speakers are planned, along with activities as well as good company. Additionally, on alternate Fridays, the home hosts its popular Singing for The Brain sessions at 10.30am. These sessions are loved by our residents and members of the community, family and friends are very welcome to attend and have a good singalong.
There is no need to book for any of our Friday morning sessions, just drop in and meet the team – we look forward to welcoming you.
