Cambridge Care Home Resident Lily Wilkin Celebrates Her 100th Birthday
Resident Lily Wilkin celebrated her 100th birthday at Langdon House Care Home in Chesterton, Cambridge, surrounded by family, friends, the care team and members of the local community. The centenary celebration included 120 birthday cards, live entertainment and a special message from Their Majesties The King and Queen.
A 100th Birthday Filled With Cards and Special Wishes
The celebration became even more memorable when Lily received 120 birthday cards and warm wishes following an appeal by Langdon House. Among the messages was an official 100th birthday card from Their Majesties The King and Queen.
Lily said: “I have had the most amazing day. I couldn’t believe all the cards, surprises and lovely people who came to celebrate with me!”
Lily’s Reflections on Reaching 100
Asked about the secret to reaching 100, Lily reflected on the importance of an active life and treating people with kindness: “I think working on the farm played a big part, and my mother always said, ‘Treat others how you want to be treated.’ That’s something I’ve always lived by.”
A Community Celebration at Langdon House
Lily’s family were joined by the Mayor of Cambridge, Cllr Maria Cleminson, for a surprise birthday party at Langdon House. Guests enjoyed birthday cake and live entertainment as they celebrated Lily’s extraordinary milestone together.
