Residential care can take the stresses and strains out of everyday life, and give you and your loved ones the opportunity to enjoy your time together.
We asked residents living with us at Goodwins Hall Care Home to share their experience with us.
Pat Hedger was enjoying a cup of tea in our cafe area on Wednesday morning, having completed a seated exercise class, when we caught up with her.
She moved to Goodwins Hall five years ago, after a fall left her concerned about living alone.
“As you get older you just can’t pick yourself up as easily,” she said.
Having decided the time was right to seek some support, Pat visited Goodwins Hall.
“I only lived down the road, so Goodwins was an obvious choice,” she said.
Pat, now 82, settled straight into her new home.
“I can move about much more freely in my wheelchair,” she said
Pat had freezer meals delivered to home as she struggled cooking full meals, but now enjoys the delicacies created in our kitchens.
“Everything here is done for you, the washing, ironing and cooking. They even administer my medication so I don’t have to remember when to take it. All the stresses and strains of everyday life have gone, someone else takes on all of those worries for you.”
Pat remains busy and activity, she is a regular in our salon and has both her hair and nails done by our professional hairdresser and beauty therapist.
“My sister is 92 and she comes to see me with her son. I also have lots of friends here.
“People here have such tales to tell, especially those who were locally born. Their lives were very different to those of us townies,” said Pat, who was brought up in north London.
Barry Smith, 68, has been at Goodwins Hall since 2005, longer than any other member of our Goodwins community.
He explained: “My mum was caring for me before but she was struggling so I came here for respite, I decided I wanted to stay and I am still here. I love it here.”
Goodwins Hall has a lively schedule of activities for residents and Barry attends every single event. His busy social life extends beyond the home too.
“I am a really big fan of Kings Lynn football club and I was going to every home game, but not as much recently. I love it.”
