An advert on Facebook led a mum-of-four to an open day at Avocet Court Care Home, and a job that worked around her family.
Kim Lanham had taken a career break to bring up her young family but after eight years at home she was ready to get back into work.
“I saw an advert on Facebook for Avocet Court and thought I would pop along to the recruitment open day,” said the health care assistant.
“At the time I wasn’t really thinking about what hours I would work, but had considered working a night shift.”
Kim met with the management team at the home and discussed her situation. It was discovered that there was a need for extra support during the evening, which fitted perfectly with Kim’s family life.
Now she works 12 hours a week over four nights on the home’s Harlech Community, and is hoping to step up her hours now her youngest child is in school.
Her role involves caring for the residents, updating paperwork and ensuring residents are hydrated, which is particularly important for those living with dementia.
She said: “Returning to work has given me my independence, I enjoy being around other people.
“It is such a rewarding career and I would have had no idea that there could be this type of flexibility had I not gone along to that open day.”
Ruth Garnham, General Manager, said: “Typically people living with dementia need additional support in the evenings, and having Kim there during that time means she can help meet their needs. That may be getting them a drink, offering personal care or simply being a friendly face and having a chat.”
Avocet Court currently has vacancies for an assistant chef, care staff and a registered nurse, with flexible working options available. The home is hosting a recruitment open day on Saturday, 11th February, come along and discuss the opportunities.
