Are you aware of the early signs of dementia? We are hosting free workshops to support the wider community and help you understand more about the condition.
Athena Care Homes are inviting anyone who feels they could benefit to join the dementia awareness workshops taking place at Aria Court Care Home, in March, on Friday, 5th May.
It may be that you have concerns about a loved one who is showing early signs of the condition, or awaiting an assessment, or you may work in a service used regularly by older people who may be living with dementia such as the Post Office, a hearing centre or building society.
Our in-house learning and development team will be running two sessions at the home, raising awareness of dementia and related mental health issues and sharing their knowledge in how best to support someone.
The workshops are designed to help relatives, and those in the community understand more about the disease. We will help you identify the early signs and explain more about how the condition impacts a person.
We also want to give relatives of those living with dementia the opportunity to talk about their experience with others going through something similar, because we know how important it is for families to feel supported, listened to and understood.
Lucy Hoddy, Learning and Development Manager, said: “This journey can be as frightening, confusing and overwhelming for relatives as it is for our someone living with dementia.
“We want to break down the condition and help families understand how best to support their loved ones. We want to show how to ease their frustrations and work with them so they can continue to enjoy one another’s company.
“These sessions are open to anyone who has concerns about someone close to them. It may be they are experiencing early dementia or that they are already living with dementia. They are also beneficial to those who may work or volunteer with services that support those with dementia.”
You can book spaces on the morning session running from 10am to midday, or the afternoon session from 1pm to 3pm. Sessions are free but please book a space for each person wishing to attend.
Aria Court hosts a monthly Dementia Cafe to support those living with the condition and their caregivers, providing stimulating activities as well as talks from experts and refreshments. Sessions are free to attend and everyone is welcome.
