Every year, we love to spark a little friendly competition across our family of care homes, bringing festive cheer and creativity to everyone involved. Our Christmas competitions are a delightful way to get our residents, their families, and our dedicated teams into the Christmas spirit, and this year was no exception.
With five exciting categories to participate in, the magic was on full display:
• Best Dressed Tree
• Christmas Lights and External Displays
• Best Wreath
• Best Cake Made in Our Kitchens
• Best Cake or Festive Treat Made by Residents
For the first time, we invited our Facebook followers to play a key role in choosing the winners by liking, commenting, and sharing their favourite entries. The response was fantastic, and we’re thrilled to announce the winners.
Best Dressed Tree: Avocet Court
The team at Avocet Court in Ipswich wowed everyone with their incredible Christmas tree, displayed prominently in the reception area. Complete with a train circling the base, this stunning tree captured the magic of the season and the hearts of voters.
Christmas Lights and External Displays: Goodwins Hall
Goodwins Hall in Kings Lynn lit up the competition with their spectacular exterior decorations, which included beautifully adorned lights and the centrepiece—the Goodwins Fountain—looking fantastic at the front of the home.
Best Wreath: A Tie Between Goodwins Hall and Alex Wood House
This year’s wreath category ended in a draw! At Goodwins Hall, the wreath featured a delightful blend of cinnamon, orange, and festive poinsettias. Meanwhile, Alex Wood House in Cambridge showcased two creative entries: a glorious bauble garland and a whimsical garland crafted from pompoms made by the residents.
Best Cake Made in Our Kitchens: Aria Court
The team at Aria Court delivered a true showstopper—a tall, beautifully decorated cake adorned with foliage, Christmas trees, and deer. It looked almost too good to eat (but we’re certain it tasted even better)!
Best Cake or Festive Treat Made by Residents: Goodwins Hall
The residents at Goodwins Hall in Kings Lynn impressed everyone with their charming snow-covered cake, complete with a jolly Santa, penguins, and Christmas trees. Their creativity and festive spirit truly shone through.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, from the talented creators to the enthusiastic voters on Facebook. Your involvement made this year’s competitions extra special.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas from all of us at Athena Care Homes. Here’s to a wonderful time filled with love, laughter, and plenty of festive fun.
