At Athena Care Homes, the festive season is all about celebrating joy, creativity, and community—and our annual Christmas card competition has become a much-anticipated tradition that embodies these values.
Each year, residents across our care homes unleash their artistic flair to create heartfelt and festive Christmas cards. From drawings to finger painting, sticker collages, and other imaginative mediums, the competition is an inclusive and engaging activity for everyone, regardless of artistic experience.
The activity not only fosters creativity but also offers our residents the chance to reminisce about Christmases past while crafting something truly special. The process of creating these cards is a highlight of our lifestyles programme, which is woven into the fabric of life at Athena Care Homes, especially during festive seasons.
Each home has a winner and the cards are printed to be sent out to family, friends and colleagues in the local community.
At Aria Court in March the fantastic gonk/Christmas gnome card (pictured above) was created by Margaret who has been a resident at the home for the last three years. Margaret is an active member of the Happy Potters gardening club and loves to join un all the activities which take place at Aria Court the happy potters club and joining in activities that we do. She was thrilled her card had been printed to represent the home this year. The other two cards above were created at Amberley Hall in Kings Lynn and Alex Wood House in Cambridge.
At Avocet Court in Ipswich it was resident Pat who created the stunning Star of Bethlehem card. Pat has been a resident for 18 months and loves to joke around with everyone, as well as enjoying walking in the gardens. Pat chose to design the star of Bethlehem as this reminds of her of Christmas.
Goodwins Hall resident Ann created the winning entry for the King’s Lynn home this year and says her design was inspired by the happiness which Christmas brings. Ann enjoys walks around the beautiful gardens at Goodwins Hall, attending the church services provided by the home and attending the daily activities.
Beyond the competition itself arts and crafts remain an integral part of our regular activities, connecting residents with each other and the world around them through creativity. As Christmas draws nearer, we look forward to incorporating even more fun, ensuring that this festive season is as magical and meaningful as ever.
Congratulations to our talented winner and a heartfelt thank you to all participants for making this year’s competition such a great celebration of artistic expression and Christmas spirit.
