Athena Care Homes is celebrating after receiving two Highly Commended trophies at the prestigious National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) Awards. The awards recognise the outstanding contributions of our dedicated lifestyles teams in enhancing the lives of our residents through meaningful engagement and community initiatives.
Intergenerational connections at Aria Court
At Athena we recognise the importance of intergenerational connections at our care homes and are thrilled that Aria Court Care Home in March was recognised in the Intergenerational Connections Award category, highlighting the home’s commitment to fostering relationships between residents and younger generations.
Aria Curt residents have been delighted with the events that embrace the generations and the home has meaningful connections with local nurseries, cadets, schools and community groups, Aria Court has successfully created an enriching, multigenerational environment.
One of the standout projects, The Generation Games, brings children into the home during school holidays for shared activities, including games, craft sessions, and music. Additionally, partnerships with local nurseries and charities, such as FACET, provide further opportunities for intergenerational engagement. These initiatives not only bring joy to residents but also offer young people valuable experiences, fostering understanding and mutual respect between generations.
Highly commended for music engagement: Singing for the Brain
Athena Care Homes has been recognised in the Music Engagement Award category for its introduction of Singing for the Brain, a transformative initiative developed in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Society.
This programme started in the Athena family at Amberley Hall in Kings Lynn and is currently being rolled out across our seven homes in East Anglia.
Singing for the Brain uses the power of music to support older individuals including those living with dementia, promoting cognitive function, emotional wellbeing, and community integration.
Singing for the Brain sessions, which include familiar songs, vocal exercises, and social interaction, have already proven to be a huge success at Amberley Hall. The initiative is now being rolled out across all seven Athena Care Homes, with staff receiving specialist training to ensure the highest quality experience for participants. Whenever possible, local choirs and community members are invited to join in, creating an inclusive and uplifting environment.
A commitment to enriching lives
Athena Care Homes takes great pride in delivering innovative and engaging programmes that enhance the lives of residents. By prioritising intergenerational interaction and the therapeutic power of music, our care homes continue to be at the forefront of person-centred care.
Athena Care Homes Funder Mala Agarwal said, “We are incredibly proud of our lifestyles teams at Aria Court and Amberley Hall for their dedication and passion in making a difference every day.
