Alex Wood House care home is delighted to introduce Tendai as our new Night Team Leader. Having been a valued member of our care team for two years, Tendai’s dedication and compassionate approach have earned him this well-deserved promotion from care assistant to team leader.
Tendai’s story is one of adventure, dedication, and a commitment to helping others. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, he left home at the age of 19 to pursue an honours degree in International Economics and Trade in China. However, life took him on an unexpected path—one that led to working as a teacher for the next 10 years with children with special needs in both China and Egypt.
Two years ago, Tendai and his wife – who had travelled with him – made the big move to the UK, both finding their passion in the healthcare sector.
Tendai has embraced his role at Alex Wood House, discovering a deep love for caring. He said, “Working in care is a very satisfying and rewarding job. I enjoy working at Alex Wood House – let’s just say I found a new love when I worked here.”
Tendai takes pride in getting to know the residents, always paying attention to the small details that make a big difference. His patience, kindness, and consideration have been the foundation of his success in the role and he believes the three qualities most needed as the foundations for a successful career in care.
Now, as he steps up as Night Team Leader, he welcomes the new challenges and responsibilities that come with the role.
“It is just the right time for me to be making the change,” he says with a smile. “Sleeping patterns are all over the place with our new baby, but it will settle down!”
Outside of work, Tendai is a big football fan, passionately following Arsenal. He’s also a self-taught pianist, and music is a big part of his life. With his wife being a singer, the couple often perform together—whether at their church or other social gatherings.
We’re thrilled to have Tendai leading our night team, bringing his dedication, warmth, and leadership to Alex Wood House. Please join us in congratulating him on his new role.
