Athena Care Homes is proud to announce that all seven of its care homes will be taking part in this year’s Care Home Open Week, running from 16th to 22nd June.
Care Home Open Week is all about connecting communities and the week-long celebration is set to be a vibrant showcase of the joy, compassion, and innovation at the heart of each Athena care home.
Care Home Open Week is a national initiative designed to open up care homes to their local communities, highlighting the quality of care, the warmth of the environments, and the meaningful relationships that make each home special.
At Athena Care Homes we love to welcome community groups in at any time and all of our homes have great links with schools, churches, local charities and other key groups in our local communities.
Care Home Open Week is a great opportunity for us to showcase our homes with a series of great events, ranging from festive fetes and live performances to themed open days and family-friendly fun—all aimed at welcoming visitors in and showing them what life in a care home can truly offer.
Here’s a look at what each Athena Care Homes has in store:
- Langdon House, Cambridge (15th June) – Kicking off the celebrations a little early, Langdon House invites guests to a serene afternoon in the garden from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, with a String Duo performance accompanied by wine and cheese.
- Alex Wood House, Cambridge (21st June) – Stepping into the spotlight alongside the Arbury Carnival, Alex Wood House will host The Greatest Showman Open Day from 2.00pm to 4.30pm. Expect circus skills, stilt walkers, a BBQ, face painting, and plenty of show-stopping surprises.
- Ashlynn Grange, Peterborough (21st June) – Immerse yourself in an English Country Fair atmosphere from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. With a live singer, petting zoo, traditional games, cream teas, and handcrafted scarecrows, it’s a truly nostalgic celebration of community life.
- Avocet Court, Ipswich (21st June) – Feel the island vibes at the Caribbean Extravaganza starting from 2.00pm. With a steel band, coconut shy, rum cocktails, and live music, this event promises sunshine and smiles no matter the weather.
- Amberley Hall, Kings Lynn (22nd June) – Residents and guests will enjoy a lively Car Boot Sale from 10.00am to 2.00pm. Alongside ice cream and local stalls, pitches are available from just £3, offering a great way to meet the community and support local sellers.
- Goodwins Hall, Kings Lynn (22nd June) – Say ¡Hola! to a Mexican-Themed Day from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, featuring mini donkeys, piñatas, games, delicious food, and live entertainment from KJ & the Catt.
- Aria Court, March (28th June) – Extending the celebrations a little longer, Aria Court will host a Summer Fete from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, featuring live music from Back in Time, a bouncy castle, BBQ, face glitter, tombola, and a variety of stalls, including Barnardo’s and local crafts.
Across the Athena family, these events not only offer a chance to connect with loved ones and neighbours, but also provide a meaningful opportunity to learn more about the outstanding care, innovative practices, and strong community values that define each home.
