Michelle, one of our team at Goodwins Hall, decided a couple of years ago that she needed to find a project to encourage the gentlemen within our home to become more hands on with our activities. After discussion with the residents there were a few expressions of interest in doing something a little bit more physical and working with their hands. Inspired by the popularity of Men’s Sheds, our team set about creating a similar project within our home.
Initially the Goodwins Hall residents started small and managed to upcycle a small coffee table. To add a little bit of extra decoration and flare, our residents chose to cover the top with beer bottle tops, pictured below.

Unfortunately the onset of the pandemic meant a temporary pause for our group activities. Now though, our upcycling club is back in full swing and more popular than ever with both the ladies and gentlemen alike!
Our monthly sessions are planned around the weather so we can be outside for our sanding and varnishing and our furniture is saved from landfill, with permission, by our maintenance team.
Ultimately, our team and residents hope to be able to sell some of the pieces which we don’t use within the home at our Summer and Christmas Fayres when they start up again!
