The arrival of autumn at the end of October, also brought about Avocet Court Care Homes’ 30th birthday!
The home was opened late in the year in 1993 and to mark the occasion, Ruth Garnham and her team laid on a special celebration involving all 3 of the communities at Avocet Court, as well as welcoming our residents’ loved ones, healthcare partners, Athena team members and old friends of the home.
The afternoon began as the home welcomed back old team members including, David, who was the original administrator when the home opened!
One of the surprise features of the day was the recognition of Home Manager, Ruth Garnham.
Ruth joined the Avocet Court team as a Bank Housekeeper in early 1994, in one of the secondary phases of opening. Since then Ruth has worked her way through the ranks to now lead the home. The team at the home were keen to recognise her contributions with hand written memories and letters, which were put together into a beautiful book.
The book was presented to Ruth after a tear-jerking speech from Avocet’s Deputy Manager, Nina Morris.
The end of the presentation marked the beginning of the party! With fantastic catering across all communities and live entertainment for our residents to enjoy, the day was a fitting recognition of the last 30 years!
