In a display of community spirit, Avocet Court care home recently held three events that not only brought joy to residents but also extended a helping hand to their neighbours at ActivLives in Ipswich.
Through a series of activities, Avocet Court raised a total of £228, a small sum with a big impact on fostering connections within the local community.
Chris, a vibrant personality at Avocet Court and one of the first faces people see on reception at the home, spearheaded the fundraising initiatives, including a raffle during the Avocet Ball in February, along with engaging competitions like ‘Guess the Eggs in the Jar’ and ‘Name the Bunny’ for Easter. These activities not only brought smiles to the faces of residents but also resonated with the Avocet Court community spirit.
This initiative is more than just fundraising; it’s about nurturing a blossoming relationship between Avocet Court and ActivLives. It reflects Athena Care Homes’ commitment to being an integral part of the local community and building meaningful connections.
ActivLives, a charity dedicated to transforming lives in the local area, operates allotments and community gardens close to Avocet Court. Their work extends beyond mere gardening; it’s about fostering well-being and community spirit.
Susannah Robirosa, Development Manager at ActivGardens, expressed her thanks for Avocet Court’s thoughtful gesture. “We’re extremely grateful to the team at Avocet Court for thinking of us to benefit from Chris’ charity efforts,” she said.
“There’s lots of evidence to show that gardening and being out in the fresh air is good for mental and physical health, and at ActivLives, we want as many people as possible to benefit. We will use this generous donation for equipment – tools, gloves, compost, seeds – to further our mission.”
Ruth, Home Manager at Avocet Court, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of community engagement. “We love to get involved with other community groups here at Avocet Court and are grateful for all the help ActivLives has given us in the past,” she remarked. “We hope the relationship will continue to grow and benefit us all.”
