After being brilliantly attended last year, we’re delighted to announce that we’re offering our fantastic Dementia Awareness workshops again this January at our homes.
Who are these sessions for?
Friends and relatives who have concerns about a loved one who is living with dementia or showing early signs of the condition are being invited to join a workshop run by our team here at Athena Care Homes.
Our in-house learning and development team will be at our homes on the week of the 15th January to deliver these sessions, along with a separate Well-being Workshop (more details here).
The sessions will run from 10.00am to 12.00pm at:
Goodwins Hall, Kings Lynn – Monday 15th January – Book here.
Aria Court, March, Cambs – Tuesday 16th January – Book here.
Avocet Court, Ipswich – Wednesday 17th January – Book here.
Alex Wood House, Cambridge – Thursday 18th January – Book here.
What will they cover?
The workshops are designed to help relatives understand more about the disease. We will help you identify the early signs and how the condition impacts a person.
Our teams have vast experience caring for those living with dementia and other mental health conditions. We want to share that knowledge with families to give you the confidence you need to support your loved ones.
We also want to give relatives the opportunity to talk about their experience with others going through something similar, because we know how important it is for families to feel supported, listened to and understood.
Lucy Hoddy, Learning and Development Manager, said: “This journey can be as frightening, confusing and overwhelming for relatives as it is for our residents who are living with dementia.
“We want to break down the condition and help families understand how best to support their loved ones. We want to show to ease their frustrations and work with them so they can continue to enjoy one another’s company.
“These sessions are open to anyone who has concerns about someone close to them. It may be they are experiencing early dementia or that they are already living with dementia.”

Families can book their spaces at either of two workshops being run at each home. The morning sessions run from 10am to midday, and the afternoon session from 1pm to 3pm. Sessions are free but please book a space for each person wishing to attend.
