As temperatures drop and energy costs rise, Athena Care Homes is once again stepping up to help its local communities with their Winter Warmer Scheme, now in its second year.
This heartwarming initiative offers residents in the areas surrounding Athena’s care homes a welcoming, warm space along with a comforting free soup and a roll in November and December.
A warm welcome for everyone
The Winter Warmer Scheme, which launched last year, was designed with community support in mind, as our homes invited in over 60s to enjoy a delicious soup and enjoy great company!
Athena’s care homes—in Cambridge, Kings Lynn, Ipswich, Peterborough and March—are participating in the scheme with some offering the hot soup every day and others have Winter Warner special afternoons.

Supporting community during difficult times
A spokesperson said, “At Athena Care Homes we place strong emphasis on being an active and supportive part of the communities where we operate. As the weather gets colder, we hope this simple gesture of providing a warm, safe space and a hot meal will make a difference in the lives of those who may need it most.
“Winter can be a particularly hard time for many, and we want to be there for those who might be feeling the cold or isolation. Our doors are open, and we’re offering not just a hot meal but also a friendly face and a place to warm up.”
More than just a meal
In addition to providing a warm meal, the Winter Warmer Scheme offers a sense of community. Visitors will be greeted with kindness and hospitality, fostering social connections during a season that can be especially isolating for some. The atmosphere at each Athena home is inviting, ensuring that visitors feel welcome and comfortable.
Athena Care Homes’ initiative highlights the importance of community spirit and practical support in difficult times. As the need for such support increases, initiatives like the Winter Warmer Scheme provide a valuable lifeline for those who may otherwise struggle through the colder months.
