Liz Frost recently joined Alex Wood House in Cambridge as Community Lead, bringing with her a wealth of experience, a passion for people, and a deep commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of residents.
Since starting in September as Night Team Leader, Liz has quickly made her mark at the Arbury-based care home. With over seven years of experience in the care sector, Liz has worked across a wide range of roles, including frontline care, care coordination, training, management, and recruitment and retention.
Her background in domiciliary care has provided her with strong, transferable skills that are proving invaluable in the residential care setting at Alex Wood House.
Originally from Yorkshire, Liz began her working life in retail before transitioning into care – a move that has brought her not only a rewarding career but also a better work/life balance. Her earlier experience in customer service and team management has translated seamlessly into her leadership role in the care environment.
“I love making a difference to people’s lives – it’s often the little things that matter most to our residents,” says Liz. “Helping someone dress in their favourite outfit and making sure they feel good for the day – it’s small gestures like that which bring real joy.”
Now working day shifts, Liz is enjoying being part of the vibrant daily life at the home. “Being on days is fantastic – I love seeing all the activities and events taking place. The residents and team have such a great rapport, and it’s especially lovely when the sun is out and everyone is enjoying the garden together.”
Liz’s lifelong connection with older people began at home in Yorkshire, where she grew up with her great-grandmother living with the family. She now also helps care and provide support for her own father, which deepens her empathy and understanding of the needs of the elderly.
As a Team Leader, Liz supports the Home Manager and Deputy Manager with essential administrative tasks such as audits and care plans, putting her strong organisational and leadership skills to excellent use. She finds the role highly rewarding and appreciates the opportunity to contribute to both the wellbeing of residents and the smooth running of the home.
Outside of work, Liz is kept busy by her family – she has two sons, a stepdaughter, and five grandchildren. Her true passion, however, is her horse, Bryn. A qualified riding instructor, Liz has been riding since the age of four and got her first horse at just seven years old. Over the years, she has bred horses and competed in eventing, and still enjoys spending time with Bryn whenever she can.
Liz’s combination of compassion, experience, and dedication makes her a valued member of the team at Alex Wood House, and she’s looking forward to the journey ahead.
