Avocet Court in Ipswich has been announced as a double finalist in the inaugural Palliative & End of Life Care Awards, hosted by Care Talk magazine.
This exciting recognition highlights the exceptional dedication and innovation of the team at Avocet Court in delivering compassionate, person-centred care for those nearing the end of life.
The Palliative & End of Life Care Awards have been created to honour outstanding initiatives within social care and hospice settings that improve the experience of people as they approach the end of their lives. These national awards recognise the essential and often complex role played by care professionals in supporting individuals with conditions such as dementia, advanced neurological disorders, and other life-limiting illnesses.
Being shortlisted in not just one, but two categories is a testament to the team at Avocet Court, whose commitment to dignity, empathy, and holistic care has clearly made a powerful impact. Their work stands out among care providers across the UK, and this recognition places them at the forefront of excellence in palliative and end-of-life care.
Home Manager Ruth Garnham said, “We have an outstanding team here at Avocet Court who do everything they can to make all of our residents’ lives the best that they can be.
“We are really proud to be shortlisted for these two awards and always proud of the work that we do in our home every day.”
Innovative practices at Avocet Court this year have included –
- Funeral Director Training – ‘Care After Death’
Every team member is offered specialist training in partnership with a local funeral director. This enables our staff to manage the moments after a resident’s passing with sensitivity and knowledge, ensuring both families and colleagues feel supported through grief. - Respectful Traditions
We honour every resident with a symbolic gesture: a flower placed on their bed or door after passing, creating a space for reflection, remembrance, and communal respect within the home. - The Memory Garden & ‘Postbox to Heaven’
Our serene Memory Garden offers families and friends a tranquil space to visit and remember their loved ones. The “Postbox to Heaven” gives residents and visitors the opportunity to write letters to those they have lost—a gentle, cathartic way to process grief and preserve bonds.
The winners will be revealed at a prestigious gala ceremony at the Hilton London Bankside Hotel on 27th June 2025, where care leaders, professionals, and advocates will gather to celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams making a profound difference in this critical area of care.
Congratulations to the team at Avocet Court.
