A Celebration of Connections, Care, and Community
At Aria Court Care Home, we believe every day should be filled with meaningful moments, dignity, and joy. Recently, our residents enjoyed a truly special occasion – Gentlemen’s Day – a celebration designed to bring together friendship, relaxation, and connection while showcasing the values that lie at the heart of Athena Care Homes
A Day of Pampering and Companionship
The highlight of the day was a visit from dementia-friendly barber Louis, who provided haircuts and shaves for all the gentlemen at Aria Court. With warmth and patience, Louis created a relaxing space where residents felt uplifted and cared for. The atmosphere was filled with smiles, laughter, and conversation, reminding us how powerful small acts of kindness can be.
Our guests from the FACET Learning Disability Group also joined in, with two young men enjoying a pampering session and the owner having a fresh shave before heading off on holiday. FACET is a local charity that supports adults with learning disabilities to build independence, skills, and confidence through training and community-based opportunities. This multi-generational connection truly reflected Athena’s value of inclusion, bringing people together from different walks of life in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Stories That Matter
Throughout the day, conversations flowed freely, guided by music chosen by the residents themselves. One poignant moment came when Norman, one of our residents, shared stories of his 68-year marriage and the challenges of supporting his wife living with Alzheimer’s. Surrounded by compassion and understanding, Norman expressed heartfelt gratitude for having a safe space to share his feelings.
This moment was a reminder of Athena’s value of compassion – always listening, supporting, and respecting the life stories that make each individual unique.
Culinary Delights and Shared Experiences
No celebration at Aria Court would be complete without delicious food. Our Head of Culinary & Hospitality, Gareth, treated residents to a live cookery demonstration in the café. The menu included:
• Chicken breast with mushroom & white wine sauce
• Creamed potatoes and cabbage
• Apple and summer fruit crumble with custard
To accompany the meal, residents enjoyed a selection of drinks, from John Smith’s Bitter and cider to cappuccinos and lattes – complete with traditional treats like pork scratchings and pretzels.
Food always has the power to bring people together, and mealtimes at Aria Court are about more than just nourishment – they’re about building bonds, sparking conversations, and celebrating community.
Meaningful Moments and Lasting Bonds
Gentlemen’s Day was also filled with personal connections. Our Head of Lifestyle & Community Engagement, Hannah, sat down to play a game of chess with Paul, another of our residents. In between moves, Paul shared memories of his past work as a festival security guard, recalling legendary performances by AC/DC and Bon Jovi.
These one-to-one interactions highlight our commitment to meaningful engagement – ensuring every individual feels seen, heard, and valued.
A Reflection of Athena Care Homes’ Values
Gentlemen’s Day at Aria Court wasn’t just an event – it reflected what we stand for at Athena Care Homes:
• Compassion – creating safe, supportive spaces for residents to share and connect.
• Inclusion – bringing together residents, families, and the wider community.
• Dignity – offering personalised experiences that respect individuality.
• Meaningful Engagement – fostering joy and connection through activities, stories, and shared experiences.
The day was filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and memories that will stay with us all. At Aria Court, every event is an opportunity to celebrate the lives, experiences, and personalities of our residents – because care is about so much more than just support, it’s about living life to the fullest, together.
