From Royal Marine to Green Fingers
At Langdon House, we’re lucky to have many wonderful people who make our home such a special place, and one of them is Michael, our dedicated gardener, who joined us in May 2025.
Michael’s journey to Langdon House is as inspiring as the gardens he now tends. After serving 18 years in the Royal Marines, Michael faced the challenges of life after service, including living with PTSD, a condition that affects so many of our brave Armed Forces members. Seeking peace and purpose, Michael discovered gardening as a form of therapy. What began as a coping strategy soon blossomed into a true passion.
In his home village of Willingham, Michael began working on a small holding where he grows a wide range of fruit and vegetables. This year, he’s especially proud of his pumpkin patch, an incredible 380 pumpkins, lovingly grown with the help of his son. Together, they sell their harvest locally, spreading both joy and a bit of seasonal cheer.
Since joining the Langdon House family, Michael has made a huge impact, not just on our gardens, but on all of us. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and endless enthusiasm brighten everyone’s day. He’s also shown his compassionate side beyond plants, recently rescuing a tiny robin with just one leg, who now happily lives in the garden shed and is under his care.
Michael’s story is one of resilience, hope, and the healing power of nature. We’re so grateful to have him as part of the Langdon House team, bringing beauty, kindness, and a touch of inspiration to our home every single day.
