At Langdon House, one resident who embodies this spirit is Chris, whose creativity and artistic talent continue to inspire everyone around him.
A familiar face at the home’s weekly Art Club, Chris has enjoyed a lifelong passion for the arts. After studying art in Brighton, he built an impressive career as a professional photographer, working with internationally renowned musicians including Whitney Houston and Bob Marley. His fascinating stories and experiences are often shared with fellow residents, visitors, and team members, helping to create meaningful connections throughout the home.
Chris’s creativity extends far beyond photography. He continues to enjoy painting, creative writing, and playing the harmonica, embracing every opportunity to express himself and share his talents with others. His commitment to staying active in the arts demonstrates the positive impact that creative activities can have on wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life in later years.
As part of Langdon House’s VE Day celebrations, Chris embarked on one of his most ambitious painting projects to date. Over the course of three days, he carefully developed the artwork layer by layer while listening to some of his favourite music. The sounds of The Jam and The Clash filled the conservatory as fellow residents stopped by to watch his progress, offer encouragement, and celebrate his achievement.
The completed painting was professionally framed and proudly displayed outside Chris’s room, where it continues to be admired by visitors, family members, residents, and colleagues. Chris takes great pride in the finished piece and enjoys sharing the story behind its creation with everyone who sees it.
The artwork has also received special praise from Chris’s family. His sister shared:
“I’ve seen the painting today and it’s amazing. I am very proud of my brother Chris. It’s a fantastic achievement. Also, a big thank you to all the support and encouragement the staff have given him.”
Her heartfelt feedback reflects the positive impact that meaningful activities, encouragement, and personalised support can have on residents’ wellbeing. We are delighted that Chris will be among the artists exhibiting their work at Langdon House’s inaugural Summer Art Exhibition this July. The exhibition will celebrate the creativity, individuality, and achievements of our residents while bringing together families, friends, and the wider community.
